Very useful attribute to a laptop with tide and few USB ports. I am using it with a macbook pro to connect a mouse and a memory stick. In this case there's no need to plug the adaptor. If the connected devices are not power consuming it can be used without the adapter. The hub has 4 outgoing USB ports, one in front and three on the back. It comes with a cable to connect to the source USB port on your laptop, so it is ready to plug and go. No software installation needed, it's a plug-and-play device....

However, the first unit's power adapter died after four days of use. Amazon, to its credit, sent me a new unit with next day delivery. However, that unit's power adapter was dead on arrival....
