So far, even plugged in to an outlet, this hub won't properly connect to my ipod dock (ipod connects then ejects over and over) or an external hitachi 2.5" external drive (drive uses 2 USB connections to get power and signal - drive ready light keeps flashing on and off). When I plug these into my old Belkin 4 port hub, they work great...I attribute it to the Belkin's beefy power brick. So far, I've successfully used it to connect a USB flash drive and the aformentioned Belkin hub....

While things like external USB drives or other high power items might not work as well, this is really useful for smalled items like iPods, cooling pads, headphones etc. The flashing lights are someone's weird idea of a joke since they don't tell you when an itme is plugged in( some light up the port to show a plugged in item is connected or in use) also the center light blinks fast, then slow, then faster,faster,really fast.slow,realy slow, fast... I'd reccommend this if it was for home use, but in an office the bright lights and colors and flashing would be distracting. I'd buy this on ebay for 99 cents, which i did....
