This review is from: AdvanCED USB3.0 Hub 4-port with Power SupplyFor over five years, I've been running a weather station for the San Jose area. During this time, I've slowly gone from reporting weather to other things like earthquakes and even radiation. When recently upgrading the server that all my devices connect to, I found myself in need of a USB hub.
There are lots of USB hubs out there to choose from and many of them are your typical low quality junk. I wanted to make sure I had a hub that could power lots of devices, was reliable, and fast. This led me to the AdvanCED USB3.0 Hub 4-port with Power Supply.
I've been using this USB hub for a couple of months now to power and connect a Davis Instruments weather station, a seismometer, a geiger counter, and a portable hard drive. During this time, the USB hub has been flawless. It worked straight out of the box and I've never encountered any compatibility issues. The hub comes with a power supply and enough ports to suit my needs.
Performance wise, I ran extensive HD copy tests using this and other hubs to gauge performance. The AdvanCED hub for USB 2.0 devices supported full throughput. I have not been able to test the USB3.0 transfer speed, but having USB3.0 support will allow me to continue to use this hub far into the future.
The design of the hub is also pretty nice. The unit is attractive, has a good set of status lights, and is generally well thought out. The design seems superior to the usual mass produced gear.
Overall, I am quite pleased with this hub and would not hesitate to recommend it....
This review is from: AdvanCED USB3.0 Hub 4-port with Power SupplyI purchased this item with the intent of connecting a Passport continuous backup drive with USB3.0. It was supposed to let me connect to that drive and make room for other USB3.0 attachments. This seems like a good product. The issue I have with it is that it will not stay operational without resetting it via the power supply. It works perfectly for a certain length of time and then must be reset. Maybe it is inactivity that is causing this problem. I haven't tried contacting the supplier for a solution....
This review is from: AdvanCED USB3.0 Hub 4-port with Power SupplySpeed of drive plugged into the Hub are the same as if plugged directly into the USB connector on my computer - so the Hub does not slow down the data transfer!!
I got 70MB/sec consistent speed when transferring a 7GB iso file with a 5400rpm external HDD and a cheapo USB3 PCI-E card. That's about x3 speed increase from me using a USB 2 port for the same file.
When I first got the Hub, I had some problems with it - Windows 7 x64 Ultimate was trying to install a driver for it every time the computer restarted. Some times the driver install would fail and the device would be unusable until the next restart.
I guess AdvanCED saw my problem in my initial review and contacted me. Turned out the problem was very simple - the HUB itself is plug-and-play - it has no drivers. What was causing my problem was that the drivers for the USB3 add-on card I was using were not he latest ones. Once I installed the latest version, my problem disappeared. Windows plays well with the Hub at last.
Thanks for sending me that email AdvanCED! :)...
