The power adapter IS available on the jasco website...Look up the ge rotating hub on the jasco site...then look below under features: you will see HIGHLIGHTED *AC Power Adapter available*... click on this and it will bring you to a new screen where it shows the adapter listed for 9.95!! ( 5.00 + 4.95 for shipping & handling ) PART NUMBER ( SKU# ) S93679BULK
I ran into same problem...needed a power supply for all of my stuff
in the book that comes with the hub is states that only 100ma ( computer bus power ) is avaiable WITHOUT a power adapter AND 500ma WITH the power adapter..
IF you are a SAM'S CLub Member check out the web site for a GREAT deal on this GE USB HUB...
This review is from: Ge 4-Port Usb 2.0 Rotating Hub (Pink)Pros:
- Ports swivel to allow for oversized plugs
- Cable connecting hub to computer's USB port is relatively long (5'~ 6')
Cons:
- External power supply not included (and not available)
Great idea; make the ports rotate so that oversized plugs can still fit into hub. I like the idea.
I use the hub at work. When I plug in my 2GB Sony microvault flash drive and my Logitech usb optical mouse, the bus will frequently freeze up and become inaccessible. It goes in and out. I believe the problem is that too much power is being drawn from the port. If I unplug the flashdrive the behavior stops. The mouse is marked with a rating of 100mA. I can't find specs for the flash drive. But it's hard for me to believe it draws more than the mouse. And the USB port is supposed to be able to provide up to 500mA.
The hub has a red LED. It's very bright and I believe it is drawing a lot of power.
The manual refers to two power modes (self-powered and bus-powered), and says that self-powered mode is recommended. The hub has a power jack right below the usb input that accepts an external power supply for self-power mode. But the power supply is optional (not included.) The manual says that the optional AC adapter is available at Jascoproducts.com. I've been to this website and although I can find the hub itself listed for sale (they want $25), I cannot find the power adapter on the Jasco website or anywhere else.
I would not recommend buying this hub unless you can get an AC adapter for it....
