2 Port USB To RS232 Adapter / 2 Port USB Hub

Sold Individually

This review is from: 2 Port USB To RS232 Adapter / 2 Port USB HubSeems like a nice easy unit that is supposed to use Prolific drivers. The problem is, I could not get it to connect to either serial device. I went back to a separate USB hub and USB-Serial converters. This is supposed to do just that in one unit. Had to return, really worthless. Perhaps Windoz just has no standards like the Mac. I would avoid this product unless you feel lucky....

This review is from: 2 Port USB To RS232 Adapter / 2 Port USB HubBAD NEWS FIRST :

This is another example of some company's HIT-and-RUN strategy.

Make a (good) product but ABANDON SUPPORT as soon as it hits the market. :-((

TESTS :

I used this on a XP32 system and installation was not too difficult -- I used drivers I DOWNLOADED FROM THEIR WEB PAGE.

Repeating the installation on a Windows-7 system (32bit and 64bit) ==> NO DRIVER AVAILABLE !! But I have used the VISTA-driver and that worked. SO FAR. But it requires more PC experience.

GOOD NEWS :

Not many people have a use for this kind of USB & RS232 hub -- so I understand it is an "exotic" device.

I bought this so I can control my telescope and various accessories via a single USB cable

- RS232-1 ==> the RS232 port of the telescope

- RS232-2 ==> (optional) dSLRshutter ==> camera long exposure via "B"

- USB-1 ==> CCD camera for the autoguider

- USB-2 ==> dSLR or main CCD imaging camera to capture the images / SLR remote control...
