This review is from: LaCie 130894KUA Core7 USB 2.0 Hub with 7 USB Ports (Warm Grey)I hadn't realized when I bought this hub that it had an ac adapter to plug it into the mains and when I found out, I had mixed feelings because it meant one more unsightly wire and plug around my table. But, on reflection, it's a good thing it has the power input because it means that even resource hungry USB devices have no problem getting connected and online. I currently have a 500 Gb LaCie drive, a 1Tb LaCie drive, and an HP 4580 all-in-one plugged in permanently, plus have three more ports available including a handy one on the top of the hub that's very easy to get at even with the hub positioned behind my iMac.

Setting it up was a breeze - unpack, plug in and you're good to go. Couldn't be easier.

Five of the ports are recessed under the top (two next to the power input and three on the opposite edge) and are a trifle tough to get at, especially if you tuck the hub out of sight, so they're better used for stuff you need permanently plugged in, while the top port is easily accessible for casual plug ins. I've got one port plugged into a USB cable that snakes out to the front of my iMac for the 'really' casual plug in.

All in all, highly recommended....

This review is from: LaCie 130894KUA Core7 USB 2.0 Hub with 7 USB Ports (Warm Grey)Purchased this USB Hub due to the LaCie name, and reviews. While it looks slick it feels cheap, plastic case. The ports are hidden under the hub, well recessed, so you need to pick the hub up and turn it over up to plug in or unplug a cord, not a major issue, not well thought out.

Pros: The attached USB mini-B for camera and mini usb devices is convenient.

Compartments for two attached cords useful.

Looks nice.

Single port on top convenient for flash drives.

Cons: The unit I received charges my iPad, slooowly (this is an iPad issue not the fault of the hub)

Transfering larger files from my Mac to a flash drive chokes and basically freezes, smaller files go fine.

Cord to computer could be longer (no extension cord as mentioned by another reviewer). On my iMac it hangs in the air.

08/11 Update:

The iPad will charge just very slowly and indicates it is not being charged.

Very sensitive, a nudge or a push and I loose my connection. As indicated to add or remove a usb cord I need to lift the hub, when I do, I generally lose my connection.

So this hub is in the "junk" box.

Overall very disappointed....

This review is from: LaCie 130894KUA Core7 USB 2.0 Hub with 7 USB Ports (Warm Grey)It's a straight forward installation that works as promised. Since I'm limited on my laptop in the number of USB ports this allowed for a cooling fan, a laser printer and a mass storage backup and scanner to be attached all at once....
