It may need the power supply for some applications but I'm running a Canon printer, Casio camera dock, H4150 ipaq cradle, a card reader, and a mouse. I have my 8gb Lexar drive plugged in the top.

For that reason, my original review rated it much lower, and I was about to try to return it when ... I tried it on a MacBook and it worked fine. Then I tried it on another PC running Vista and it also worked there. So, I revised my rating accordingly.
I am not the only one reporting a much lower than expected lifespan for these ports, but in my case, it seems the computer or OS or my particular configuration might have something to do with the failures I saw. Now I must consider troubleshooting my case further, but may just keep it for the MacBook instead.
My experience is too short to be able to confirm the reported lack of power the unit provides, having used it only for low-power connections so far. If you want an alternative that is powered, you could try, for example, the Cyber Power Model CP-H720P, which does actually power the USB ports individually, and indicates if any are pulling more than their allotted 500mA.
This Kensington product has a lot going for it, providing a stable, professional-looking and very usable interface....

Search on all instances of this for more detailed reviews. Bottom line: looks nice, stays put even with cables, but within a few months all but 2 of the outlets had failed....
