This review is from: Laptop/Notebook 4 Ports USB 2.0 PCMCIA/PC Card AdapterWhat can I say, the usb 4 port adapter works very nicely. I was worried I wouldn't be able to also put my wireless card below it but I could and all is well!...

This review is from: Laptop/Notebook 4 Ports USB 2.0 PCMCIA/PC Card AdapterIt enabled me to expand the number of USB ports available to my old laptop. It also seemed to allow me to have USB 2.0 for the laptop. However, it doesn't always seem to work as advertised. Not completely satisfied to the performance of the device. Some devices I attach work and others don't. I expected more from this....

This review is from: Laptop/Notebook 4 Ports USB 2.0 PCMCIA/PC Card AdapterThe adapter arrives without any drivers but it uses a standard via chipset so finding drivers was not an issue. I installed it in an old Sharp PC-UM20 running Windows 2000. I bought the adapter primarily to use an Iomega 160GB portable USB drive and I was fortunate to have compatible 5V power supplies for both the adapter and the hard drive. I tried powering the adapter and letting it power the hard drive; the power light on the drive lit but it wasn't recognized. I then tried powering the hard drive from a power supply but not the adapter and it still didn't work. When I poered both the adapter and the hard drive from separate power supplies the drive was finally recognized. I was hoping I would only have to use one power supply but in the end am happy to at least have one configuration that works. This and the fact that the long term reliabiliy of the adapter is unknown made me rate it four stars....
