This review is from: 7 Port USB Squid HubWell, looking at this USB hub, it seemed to not look any different than any of the other hubs that everyone else was saying was just cheap. I needed a USB to connect a few MIDI to USB devices for on-stage performance, which means the hub I was going to buy needed to be able to power USB devices. None of the other hubs in this price range would power USB items by itself, so I figured I'd buy the one with the power adapter, just to play it safe. Well, I was pleasantly surprised with this one.
PROS:
It powers items on the hub *without* the power adapter, and it's fast and responsive! That was awesome for me! That means I don't have to plug in something else to power on stage! It came with the power cable, but I found I don't even need it. I run two USB MIDI decices on it without a problem. It will even run my M-Audio Fast Track Pro USB audio interface without a problem. It even charges and syncs iPods perfectly! (Now, I'm sure there is a limit within reason to this, though... I mean, I wouldn't completely expect to be able to connect seven USB-powered devices to the hub and use it without plugging in the power adapter to the hub. It may work perfectly fine, but I'm not sure.) Cables plugging in to the hub seem to stay fairly secure: secure enough for the hub to be dangling from a music stand and everything stay plugged in. You can even give the connection a little tug. It's in there pretty snugly.
CONS: The only thing I have to complain is that the power adapter cable they sent with the hub is a bit on the short side. Like, not more than 2 and a half feet. A bit of a letdown, but don't let that be the only reason to buy this product. I found that what I'm using it for it doesn't need it in most cases.
CONCLUSION: This is a good product. Actually, considering I payed less than $10 for it, it's a great product! It's done absolutely everything I needed it to without a problem!...
This review is from: 7 Port USB Squid HubIt looked cool and was cheap but was dead on arrival. It's so cheap though it's not worth the shipping costs to send it back. The power cord is short, it's not even as long as my desk is tall. The usb cord that plugs into your computer is maybe 2 inches long. I would definitely have an extension cord and a usb extension cable ready to go....If I was recommending getting one, which I'm not. It gets 2 stars for being cheaper than shipping....
